Benidorm, a resort town in Spain
Benidorm is a resort town and municipality located in the Alicante province in Spain. The coastal town of Benidorm has the population of about 71,000 and is a popular summer holiday destination on the Spanish coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Until 1960s Benidorm was a small village, but with growing popularity from the tourist side it became to develop into the most popular resort in Spain and popular vacation place in whole Europe. Today Benidorm is well-known for its hotel industry, sandy beaches and skyscrapers. Because of the high number of high buildings Benidorm is often compared with New York City and called Beniyork. Located on the Costa Blanca the town is accompanied by the beautiful Puig Campana Mountains. The Skyline of benidorm is even seen from the cruise ships, passing the holiday-city far away on the meditarenian Sea on their trips from Barcelona to Valencia.
The town of Benidorm is divided into two parts: Poniente and Levante. Each of these parts has the coastline of the same name. The land between the two parts is the Old City and near the coast is located an uninhabited island with beautiful landscapes and sea view. Thanks to the unique climate affected by the local mountains the average temperature in Benidorm is 18C. The resort is quite popular among the tourists from northern Europe. All three beaches of Benidorm - Llevante, Poniente and Mal Pas – are awarded by the European Union with blue flag, which is the indicator of the highest quality. In addition to the sunbathing tourists can enjoy various festivals and attractions in Benidorm. The most popular festival here is Benidorm International Song Festival, where began their careers such singers as Julio Iglesias, Raphael or the Dúo Dinámico. For the families there are located four theme parks: Terra Mítica, Terra Natura, Aqualandia and Mundomar. Also there is located a large shopping area.
